Philadelphia. Series 9. Demand Notes were issued between August 1861 and April 1862 during the American Civil War. Demand Notes were the first widely circulated issuance of paper money by the United States, and due to their limited issuance are often extremely difficult to locate today. This example offers dark design details in black ink, while the underprint at center remains appealing in green ink. The all-important design on the reverse offers good appeal for the assigned grade.
