Frame for cartagloria - Gilded and carved wood - Early 19th century

Frame for sacred altar card converted into a mirror frame with mercury mirror. Italy, early 19th century. Wooden frame carved with volutes and floral motifs with gold leaf gilding. A sheet of wax paper with a lilies pattern has been used to cover the mirror on the back. The frame has slight gilding and plaster losses. The wood shows marginal cracks due to ageing. The volute on the bottom right has been repaired and glued back. The plastering shows partial shortcomings below the bottom volutes at the points of support. The mirror is intact but has some spots on the mercury part. It is overall well preserved. Eighteenth-century mirror frame with still patinated and shiny gilding.
