Framed Chancay / Chimu Polychrome Textile Fragment

Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Chancay/Chimu culture, ca. 900 to 1300 CE. A lovely textile fragment comprised of tightly-woven natural fibers (either cotton or camelid) in hues of espresso, wheat, hold, and crimson. The panel exhibits a series of abstract zoomorphic figures with bulbous heads, circular eyes, and spiraled tails, with chromatically-alternating panels surrounded with coiling or triangular motifs. Mounted within a wooden frame and glass panels. Size (textile): 5.5" W x 7" H (14 cm x 17.8 cm); size (frame): 10.25" W x 12.25" H (26 cm x 31.1 cm).

Condition Report: This is a fragment of a larger textile item. Fraying and loosening to interior and peripheral threads, some staining and fading to coloration, and some losses around peripheries. One old repair near bottom with tan and blue thread.
