Framed Chancay / Chimu Polychrome Textile Fragment

Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Chancay/Chimu culture, ca. 900 to 1300 CE. A lovely textile fragment comprised of tightly-woven natural fibers (either cotton or camelid) in hues of espresso, wheat, hold, and crimson. The panel exhibits a series of abstract zoomorphic figures with bulbous heads, circular eyes, and spiraled tails, with chromatically-alternating panels surrounded with coiling or triangular motifs. Mounted within a wooden frame and glass panels. Size (textile): 5.5" W x 7" H (14 cm x 17.8 cm); size (frame): 10.25" W x 12.25" H (26 cm x 31.1 cm).

Provenance: private San Francisco, California, USA collection, acquired 1970s to 2000s
