Framed Engraved Portrait of Robert E Lee. This framed portrait is in fair used condition. There is quite a bit of dust/residue covering the frame and glass so it will need to be cleaned. The frame shows signs of chipping (see image), and the portrait has areas of damage to the paper. Under the portrait reads "Sold by authority of the Lee Memorial Association for the erection of a monument at the tomb of Genrl. Robert E. Lee at Washington and Lee University Lexington, Virginia." The portrait appears to be a colored engraving by A.B. Walters after a photo from life. The lower margins contain facsimile signatures of Lee, Gen. W Pendleton, and Chas. A Davidson. Print was originally sold during a lecture tour in 1870s to help pay for a Lee monument. Frame and print measure 25.5" L x 32" W.
