This lot comprises a framed vintage rugby union match programme for the international fixture between England and Wales. The programme lists the official team line-ups for the match, which took place at Twickenham on 19 January 1952. The England squad includes captain N. M. Hall and players W. G. Hook, C. E. Winn, and J. MacG. K. Kendall-Carpenter. The Wales squad is led by captain J. A. Gwilliam and features players G. Williams, B. L. Williams, and C. Morgan. The referee is recorded as Mr. N. H. The programme features contemporary handwritten annotations in pencil or ink denoting player substitutions. Under England No. 9 E. Evans, the name E. WOODGATE has been added. For Wales No. 3 M. C. Thomas, the name A. THOMAS is written below. The document is mounted on a red card backing and presented in a dark wood frame with a gold-tone inner fillet. The reverse of the frame features a chipboard backing board secured with metal tabs and two sawtooth hanging brackets.
More Information
The programme exhibits significant age-related wear, including a heavy vertical centre crease with brown staining and aging along the fold line (photo 1). This central fold appears to have been reinforced or repaired with old adhesive tape (photo 2). A smaller piece of adhesive tape is visible on the right-hand edge (photo 3). General foxing, yellowing, and minor edge wear are present across the paper surface. The frame and glazing show no significant visible damage, though the backing board displays typical age-related discolouration (photo 4).
