Framed Pachacamac Polychrome Textile Fragment w/ Birds
Pre-Columbian, Central/South Coast Peru, Pachacamac culture, ca. 1000 CE. A fine textile fragment of perhaps a bag or coca satchel, comprised of tightly-woven camelid (alpaca or llama wool) fibers in hues of fuchsia, salmon-pink, wheat, beige, crimson, periwinkle, coffee, and espresso. The rectangular fragment is composed mainly of brown, light-blue, and dark-blue vertical stripes, and a smaller panel with abstract avian figures and cresting waves adorns the top section. Size (textile): 7.375" W x 10.875" H (18.7 cm x 27.6 cm); size (frame): 14.625" W x 17.125" H (37.1 cm x 43.5 cm).
Provenance: private Hawaii, USA collection; ex-Gary Drimmer collection, Chicago, Illinois USA formed between 1950 and 1970
