Framed Panoramic Photographic Print of Nottingham Old Market Square.
A framed panoramic black and white photographic print depicting a bustling street scene at the Old Market Square in Nottingham, England, dating from the early 20th century. The topographical view features the Queen Victoria statue on a stone plinth in the foreground, with various pedestrians, horse-drawn carriages, and double-decker electric trams traversing the square. The trams bear legible printed advertisements for 'EMPIRE' and 'MARSDENS TEA', alongside 'NOTTINGHAM CORPORATION TRAMWAYS' along the side panels. The background shows the Exchange Building with its central clock tower and various commercial storefronts including 'THE MIKADO CAFE', 'HOME & COLONIAL STORES', and 'COCOA'.
The print appears to be a lithographic reproduction of a period photograph. It is housed in an antique-style dark oak frame featuring a carved repeating geometric pattern around the border. The reverse is finished with a textured black paper backing and is fitted with a single metal circular hanging ring at the top centre. The backing paper shows some age-related loss and peeling at the edges, revealing the light wood underneath.
Width: 26 cm.
Height: 13.3 cm.
More Information
The photographic print shows some localised yellowing and foxing, most notably along the upper right edge and top margin (photo 2). The carved oak frame displays general surface wear, accumulated dust in the recesses of the carving, and minor scuffs consistent with age (photo 1). The black paper backing on the verso has significant areas of loss and tearing, particularly at the top right and bottom right corners, where the underlying wood is exposed (photo 6). The metal hanging ring is present but shows signs of oxidation.
