France - 17th Century - Mid to Late - court sword - Sword
An exquisite smallsword with a Toledo blade - Probably France, late 17th century Double edged blade marked both sides "EN TOLETO". Toledo is a city historically famous in Spain for making blades and swords. The shape of the mount and the characteristic "pas d'âne" make me think it is a French work. The mount is nicely decorated with silver inlaid (well preserved) . Unfortunately, the filigree wire originally covering the wooden grip is missing. The whole thing is strong and solid, no movement. Length 93,5cm Length of the blade 78,5cm Weight 413gr
