Regulatory CHASSEUR carbine model 1853 T: Total length: 126 cm Barrel length: 87 cm Calibre: 17. 8 mm Weight: 4. 4 kg These carbines were mainly distributed to the intervention regiments of the Second Empire (Zouaves and the Foreign Legion) . Bayonet mount: for sabre bayonet model 1842 or 1842/59. Metal parts: all the markings are legible. Marking ‘Mle 1853 T’ on the breech tail. Lock: marked ‘Manufacture Impériale de Saint Etienne’. On the thunder: serial number ‘830’ on one side and the year ‘1853’ with an ‘S’ (manufacture de Saint Etienne) on the other. Backsight adjuster: adjustable with plate and slider, graduated 175 metres (folded) to 1100 meters (extended) . Mechanism in perfect condition, complete and functional without any play, very firm springs. Grooved round barrel, good external condition, barrel interior is dirty and oxidised, the grooves are not very pronounced anymore. Wood has been refurbished in very good condition.
