Francesc Artigau

[ translate ]

FRANCESC ARTIGAU SEGUÍ (Barcelona, 1940).
Untitled, 1967.
Set of four lithographs, copies 24/60.
Signed, dated and justified by hand.
Measurements: 56 x 43 cm (each).
A painter and engraver, Francesc Artigau trained at the Schools of Arts and Crafts and Fine Arts of San Jorge, in Barcelona, and later obtained the Castellblanch scholarship. He passionately defends the artisan facet of painting, and his work is influenced by Pop Art, evolving later without losing contact with the everyday environment, always within a colourist figuration. An admirer of Piero della Francesca and Matisse, Artigau plays with perspectives and illusionist effects in his treatment of eternal themes such as the woman, the model and the artist's studio. His work is immersed in popular themes which, under a vigorous brushstroke and intense chromaticism, give the whole an atmosphere of precarious harmony; tension caused by the line which limits the spots of colour and emphasises the ironic and sharp character of the painter. He has held exhibitions both in Spain and abroad, and his prizes include the City Council of Terrassa and the City of Hospitalet. Painting and literature are often mixed in his paintings and other artistic projects, such as book illustrations. He is represented in the Museums of Contemporary Art in Madrid and Seville, and in the MACBA in Barcelona.

Este lote puede verse en la Sala de SetdartBarcelona situada en C/Aragón, 346.
