Francesco Musante (Genoa, 1950) is the painter of fairy tales. His works, full of fantastic little men, night skies and bright and surreal colours, remind the observer of the dreamy atmosphere of childhood. His tendency to accompany images with phrases, poem lines, song lyrics, dates back to the Pop Art influence of the 1970s, a period when he experimented with colours approaching abstractionism and Rauschenberg’s Combine Paintings. After his experience as engraver in the first half of the 1970s, Musante devoted himself completely to figurative painting. At first his elegant female figures were very close to the style of Gustav Klimt and the Vienna Secession, then he became a fairy tale painter, a path that made him famous. He dedicated a cycle to the “Spoon River Anthology” and one to “Alice in Wonderland”. He illustrated many books of short stories and exhibited in Italy (Rome, Milan, Prato, Verona, Bologna, Turin, Florence) and abroad (Berlin, Paris, New York, Saudi Arabia) .
