Francisco Borès Lopez was an influential Spanish artist associated with several Modern art movements of the 20th century. Born in Madrid in 1898, Borès followed in the steps of many of his Spanish peers by relocating to Paris in 1925. During his lengthy tenure in France, Borès was immersed in the revolutionary art movements taking shape at that time, fraternizing with prominent Cubists, Surrealists, and Fauvists including Pablo Picasso and Henri Matisse. His artwork draws degrees of influence from these sources and often depicts figures and landscapes. Borès achieved international recognition and acclaim during his lifetime. Following his death in 1972, much of his work entered the collection of the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo in his birthplace of Madrid.
