"The Virgin Mary" and "Jesus"
Pair of oil paintings on canvas. Signed on the back and dated in Cadiz in 1804. In their original carved and gilded cornucopia frames, they also have their original stretcher frames.
Riedmayer was a German painter who established himself in Cadiz from a very young age, completing his artistic training there. In 1789 he painted one of his most important paintings "The Virgin of Refuge" for the façade of the Oratorio de la Santa Cueva underground church in Cadiz. Most of his paintings were exported to the Latin American colonies, which is why the majority of his work can be found in churches, very few of his paintings are privately owned.
