Francois Boucher (1703-1770), Seguace - Allegoria delle Arti

[ translate ]

19th century, Follower of Francois Boucher(1703-1770)
Allegory of the arts
Oil on canvas, 100 x 129 cm
With frame, 102 x 134. 5 cm

On a cloud, highlighted by an intense blue sky, stand two cherubs: one, half-reclining, contemplates a small sculpture; the other, however, draws attention to a painting still on the easel by pointing at it with his index finger. The composition is completed by a series of references to painting and sculpture, such as a sketch and other rolled sheets, a notebook, the plaster of a foot and a bust.
We are therefore faced with the representation of an allegory of painting and sculpture. The theme in question is very frequent in the history of art, mostly depicted through the personification of the arts as female figures. More original therefore is the artist's choice to depict the arts as cupids, taking up the model of the French artist François Boucher (1703-1770) . The following works can be cited as examples: Allegory of Poetry and Allegory of Autumn, oils on canvas painted around the mid-eighteenth century and now preserved in the Metropolitan Museum in New York.
The style and color mix are also similar to this author, therefore it is reasonable to attribute the work to a 19th century follower of Boucher.

The frame is provided free of charge, therefore it cannot be a reason for return or complaint.

For paintings purchased abroad: after payment the procedure to obtain the export license (ALC) will be started. All antiques sent abroad from Italy require this document, issued by the Minister of Cultural Heritage. The procedure could take 2 to 4 weeks from the request, therefore, as soon as we have the document the painting will be sent.
