Magnificent binding in painted vellum, decorated on the upper cover with a remarkable original composition in ink and wash signed by the painter René Roussel, depicting a man in medieval costume standing out from a misty background where we can see a naked woman squatting in front of a gallows in the moonlight. In a soft cardboard slipcase. Covers and spine preserved. René Roussel (Mée/seine 1885- Issoudun 1962) , painter, draftsman and illustrator, several of his works are exhibited at the George Sand Museum. Beautiful illustrated edition, a classic by Dubout, comprising 61 compositions colored under the direction of the artist by Charpentier. Edition limited to 3000 numbered copies, this one n°362.
