Condition Report:
Overall in very good condition. Each Mouton presents with a patinated metal structure supported by four small wheels under the feet and a supple wool coat in very good condition. The patinated metal surfaces have recently been sensitively cleaned and waxed by a professional restorer with strong expertise in works by Les Lalanne. The patinated metal presents with occasional very fine surface scratches and light scuffing particularly concentrated to the legs as consistent with gentle use, as well as minute pinholes and minor casting irregularities which are inherent to the making and common for works by the artist. The patina presents with occasional and very minor areas of discoloration, only visible upon close inspection. The wool appears to be original to the piece and is in very well-maintained condition overall with age-appropriate wear. The wool surfaces have recently been sensitively stabilized by a professional restorer with strong expertise in works by Les Lalanne. Some of the wool surfaces are very gently pulling away from the heads and bodies, which is not uncommon for the form, but are overall very stable. The wool surfaces present with occasional areas of minor discoloration and light surface soiling, consistent with age and gentle use. The head of one sheep allows for slight rotating movement as intended by the artist. This Troupeau presents beautifully in person with great scale and character and offers an exceptional opportunity for collectors to acquire a large early set of Moutons de Laine.
