Frank Lloyd Wright (American, 1867-1959) Window from the B. Harley Bradley House, circa 1900 Leaded glass, wood 17-1x2 x 34-1x2 inches (44.5 x 87.6 cm) (work) 22 x 40-3x4 inches (55.9 x 1403.5 cm) (overall) PROVENANCE: B. Harley Bradley House, Kankakee. IL. The B. Harley Bradley House (1900) marks the beginning of Frank Lloyd Wright's Prairie School period. Wright, and contemporaries who learned from him, sought to embody the natural beauty of the Middle West through the use of low, flat architectural elements such as gently sloping roofs and a low, broad façade. The B. Harley Bradley House featured over ninety leaded glass windows, including the example here, that bathed the interior in warm light and blurred the line between indoor and outdoor space, a key aim for Wright. The house was restored in 2005 and converted into a public museum in 2010.
