Description: During the Fifth Crusade, the Crusade of Damiette, Francis of Assisi went to the Holy Land as a missionary in 1219. He reached Palestine and even preached before the Sultan Al-Kamil. Deeply impressed by Francis, he gave him rich gifts, but held fast to his Mohammedan faith. Francken shows the scene in the Sultan's field camp in an impressive blaze of colour.
