What is aventurine?
GLASS WITH AVENTURINE

Aventurine is a type of glass, the most precious in the entire history of Murano glass which dates back to the first half of the 17th century. The name itself derives from the term "ventura", to remember how its invention was initially due to chance and to underline the difficulties that even the most skilled masters encountered during its manufacturing. The story goes that a glassmaker, intent on fusing together the various components of the glass, due to some mishap, abandoned the fusion, thus causing the operation to fail, and that he had to wait an entire week for the cauldrons and all the oven; with great amazement, then, breaking the pots, the glassmaker himself found a marvelous material. The first recipe that teaches how to make aventurine dates back to 1644, but we had to wait until 1860 to learn the secret of blowing aventurine. Aventurine is a type of glass in which very small copper crystals are incorporated (precipitated during the cooling of the melt) which disperse homogeneously giving the material a metallic shine.
