Frederic van Rossum du Chattel (1856-1917) was a Dutch painter, watercolourist and etcher. He mainly made landscapes and water views and is counted among the second generation of the Hague School. He studied at the Hague Art Academy and was then apprenticed to Willem Maris for some time. He mainly painted subdued landscapes, often polder and waterscapes. Van Rossum du Chattel's working method was loose and sketchy, in the style of the Hague School, with influences from impressionism. During his lifetime he enjoyed wide recognition and won a medal at the World Exhibition of Paris in 18 The Hague 89. Some of his works can be seen in the Gemeentemuseum, The Hague. The Rijksmuseum has a couple of his etches in the collection.
