Catalog Note:
This almost abstract stylized work, moving away from Impressionism, is reminiscent of earlier paintings by Fursman, executed during his second trip on the coast of Brittany, France, where he depicted local life and landscapes. Here the artist focuses on his subjects as static windblown figures along the shore, very similar to another known work once in the collection of Jeune Nowak Wussow.

Painted sketch verso. Inscribed 'Painted in France by Frederick Fursman. Mr. Fursman was the co-founder of the Summer School of Painting. It was presented to Sylvia Underhill.' Board has some wear along edges and corners. Top right edge has 1/4" x 1" section that has been crushed with some paint loss. Area still intact. Overall good condition.
