Forty-two years later, in 1965 Boulton retired from J. Water Thompson as Senior Vice President and Director of Creative Service, heading up the Chicago Arts Department. To this day one of the most recognized works of Boulton is the S train station logo he designed for Wausau Insurance Co. In 1965 when he retired, Bouton was quoted as saying his future plans were "to return to do what I started to do in 1922 (before being waylaid by the advertising busness and economic necessity) to paint and draw and experience the joys and frustrations of the finer arts."
