Fredericus Jacobus van Rossum du Chattel (1856-1917) - Hoveniersbootje bij ondergaande zon op Utrechtse Vecht

[ translate ]

The Vecht in Utrecht and surroundings inspired du Chattel to paint various impressions of this river. That is why critics call him "the painter of the Vecht". He received his first painting lessons from his father, Jan Hendrik van Rossum du Chattel. He then attended the "Teekenschool" and the Haagse Akademie voor Beeldende Kunst. Worked in the studio of Willem Maris , who assisted him with advice and deed. He was clearly formed by the Hague School, but developed his own distinctive style. Received a medal for his work at the 1889 World Fair in Paris and received the Order of Leopold in 1890. Vincent van Gogh was an admirer of him and mentions him in four of his letters. (no. 171,256,257 and 361) Work in the Municipality of Museum The Hague and Rijksmuseum, among others.
