French 19th C. Sapper Sword BRASS ROOSTER POMMEL

Robust steel blade with broad fullers exhibits smooth overall greying with light surface verdigris near ricasso, remaining straight and firm in the hilt. Brass crossguard features a sharply detailed central lion mask on squared block and animal head quillons showing an attractive aged patina. Solid cast brass grip terminates in a detailed rooster head pommel displaying minor handling wear. No play. Full length 42.5 inches, blade length 35 inches.
