Condition Report:
Overall in very good condition. The wooden surfaces appear to have been sensitively reconditioned at some point in the history of the piece to restore the rich original appearance of the Macassar ebony. The richly figured Macassar ebony surfaces present with scattered surface scratches, minor abrasions, discolorations and crazing to the wood consistent with age and gentle use. The wood presents with occasional hairline cracks within the grain, stable and consistent with age, as well as a few minor chips concentrated to the edges. The edges and corners of the piece present with evidence of some occasional prior restorations and areas of in-painting which are not visually distracting. The proper left side of the desk with a more pronounced abrasion to the wood measuring approximately one inch long, not visually distracting. The desktop presents with light surface soiling, water marks and scattered traces of surface residue, not visually distracting. The silvered metal is in very good condition overall with scattered surface scratches, minor abrasions and very light pitting consistent with age.
