French Bronze Horse Statue after Guillaume Coustou

A patinated French bronze sculpture after Guillaume Coustou (1677-1746). Titled, "Cheval de Marly," a bronze rendering of the monumental Carrara marble sculpture that guarded the entrance to Louis XV’s castle at Marly. Depicts a Neoclassical style rearing horse with fur saddle being held by a frightened male groom figure, with stylized floral elements on an oblong landscape form base. Impressed signature COUSTOU to top of base. Presented on a decorative carved, lacquered, and gilded stepped wood pedestal.

Dimensions: 20.5 X 14.75 X 7.75 in.

Condition: Good overall condition having mild age related surface wear and patina. Wood pedestal has moderate wear and losses to edges and corners. Estate fresh to the market.
