Rectangular minutely hand painted miniature portrait of French princess Madame Sophie of France, after Jean-Marc Nattier, signed in the lower right corner; framed in a gilt bronze frame with foliate decorations, laurel leaf wreath design on maroon velvet background, with brocade backing, back support and ring to hang, overall 10 ¾" x 8 ¾". Provenance: private collection, Fox Chapel, PA, by descent in the family to the current owner.

Jean-Marc Nattier (1685 - 1766) was a French portrait painter. He is noted for his portraits of the ladies of King Louis XV's court in classical mythological attire.

Sophie Philippine Élisabeth Justine de France (27 July 1734 – 2 March 1782) was a French princess, a fille de France; she was the sixth daughter and eighth child of Louis XV of France and his queen consort Marie Leszczyńska. First known as Madame Cinquième, she later became Madame Sophie. She and her sisters were collectively known as Mesdames.

Condition: Overall very good antique condition, some wear to gilt finish, soils and dust, a micro speck from framing under glass.
