ICONOGRAPHY OF THE WORK:

In this case, instead of insisting on the more anecdotal and decorative aspects that this argument encourages, the artist only allows us to glimpse with very subtle irony the frivolous reading of the scene, in the knight's invitation to his young companion, whom he turns into absolute protagonists of the composition by clearly cutting out their silhouettes in front of the portal of the room, curiously showing the man's face

However, the narrative interest of the sequence is largely submerged in the artist's interpretation of the nighttime atmosphere of the street, bathed in artificial light that highlights the different establishments and splendidly suggests their interiors, both the living room dance, as well as the wine tavern and the hotel, thus showing the fascination that Madrazo – like so many other artists of his time – had for the gas-lit nighttime environments of the Cité lumière.
