French Carved and Polychromed Wood Sculpture of the Virgin and Child
ca. 1800, with pierced metal crowns and remnants of linen gowns, the delicately carved figure of the Virgin set atop a blue spherical base with crescent moon, one foot crushing a serpent, the Christ Child supported on her left arm.

Provenance: Collection of Allain Bush, New Orleans, Louisiana.
Condition Report: **In "as found" condition. Structurally sound. Original polychrome-paint largely intact. Base with overall flaking, paint and surface chips. The proper right forearm has chipped fingers and lacks an element, which was being held. Faces with minor flaking paint areas and hair with flaking. Small losses to fingers on child. The back of the Virgin figure has an open crack down the torso. Linen clothing is in tatters with losses. Original patina overall.
