Frits Thaulow Woman by a River Landscape Painting

Impressionist depiction of Frits' native Norway with a young woman by the edge of a river with her home in the background. Thaulow studied art in Copenhagen with marine specialist C. F. Sorensen (1818-1879) before going to France where he witnessed contemporary French realism. Thaulow applied French realism to his paintings of Norway before permanently moving to France where he made connections with several artists and became good friends with Claude Monet (1840-1926). Frits Thaulow also went on to mentor Edvard Munch (1863-1944). Verso retains label from Vose Galleries, Boston.
