THE FERRARI 355

First presented to the motoring press in May 1994, the F355 effectively re-forged the reputation of Ferrari's V8 which, 328 and 348 notwithstanding, had suffered since the introduction of the Mondial 'world car'. The latter, with its four seats, well-appointed interior, and - relatively - soft ride, was considered far too sensible to be a 'proper' Ferrari; the F355 though, was cast in the mold of that great driver's car, the Dino 246 GT. The heart of the F355 though, was its phenomenal 3.5-liter V8 engine. Equipped with four overhead camshafts and five valves per cylinder - a layout borrowed from Ferrari's Formula 1 engine - this remarkable unit produced a claimed 375bhp. A semi-automatic paddle-shift or six-speed manual gearbox ensured a sufficiency of ratios to keep the motor on the boil whatever the situation.

THE MOTORCAR OFFERED

This stunning 355 was purchased new in Toronto, Ontario, Canada in May of 1997. Ordered in the stunning combination of Blu Swaters Metallic over a tan leather interior with the highly desirable 6-speed manual shift transmission, it is as eye catching today as it no doubt was back then. Also accompanying the car are its original books and tools.

Remaining in Canada for three years and covering about 7,000 kilometers, the next recorded owner registered the Ferrari in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan at the end of June, 2001. Regularly serviced a Cauley Ferrari in West Bloomfield Hills, the Spider would cover an additional 7,000 miles over the course of the next 13 years. Listed in the August 30, 2014 issue of Ferrari Market Letter as having 10,500 miles and in "perfect condition, all original" (according to the listing), the CARFAX report indicates the mileage at the time was closer to 11,500.

Acquired by Tom Ferrara just prior to Thanksgiving in 2014, it has remained in his care and meticulously maintained by Miller Motorcars ever since, with copies of records to prove it. While the car presents very nicely today, it should be noted that its CARFAX report notes a mileage discrepancy with 11,500 miles being recorded in a dealer listing for the car on November 6, 2014 and the New York state inspection recording 5,800 miles on December 8, 2014. Regular service and inspections recorded in the CARFAX report in the current ownership indicate under 2,000 miles have been driven in the past eight and half years, with 7,460 miles showing on the odometer at the time of cataloging. A thick stack of service records from past and present ownership detail the car's history, along with books, tools, and more.

Widely considered one of the best looking and most exciting mid-engined Ferraris to come from the wizards in Maranello in the last 30 years, this F355 Spider is ready to snick through twisty mountain roads with a smile inducing driving experience and beautiful music erupting from the quad tailpipes.
