Octavo-format accordion-style folding binding displaying twelve chromolithographic plates at once, each row of six linked together with a woven cotton pink tape, which is sandwiched between the plates, which are pasted to one another back-to-back; a unique original structure that allows for viewing a dozen plates simultaneously, consisting of 167 depicting many different varieties of roses, clematis, honeysuckle, wisteria, hydrangea, rhododendron, spirea, weigela, quince, syringa, laburnum, lilies, honeysuckle, elm, willow, beech, linden, birch, mountain ash, chestnut, alder, red bud, grapes, currants, blackberries, raspberries, cherries, plums, peaches, apples, pears, and other plants; all marked Thompson or Stecher, one plate missing, some extra plates may have been pasted over older images, binding structure worn, some plates with discoloration, cloth joints are worn, outermost board and an enclosing flap leather, other boards covered in a blue striped paper, all worn, 34 1/2 x 17 in. when unfolded, 8 3/4 x 5 1/2 in.
