Fulgurite Sahara Desert Egypt The rare phenomenon known as Fulgurite is the product of a lightning bolt striking and melting the Earth it hits. Essentially a form of natural glass produced by a lightning strike, the result can be something very special. Fitting for inclusion in a Natural History catalog, Fulgurites are typically referred to as "fossilized lightning" since they effectively preserve a lightning bolt in a most unusual way. Measuring nearly 18 inches (46 cm) in length, the magnificent example is museum-sized, collection quality, and, surprisingly, lightweight. Presented on a custom black metal armature, this superlative offering boasts a ridged texture as well as a somewhat slightly lustrous grayish coloration.
