GASSAN SADAKATSU (1869-1943) A Shin-shintō Katana Showa era (1926-1989), dated 1943 Of honzukuri, iorimune configuration with an extended kissaki and toriizori curvature forged in ayasugi hada with a notare tempered edge mixed with gunome and a ko-maru bōshi, the slightly machiokuri tang with one hole, kesho file marks, signed Gassan Sadakatsu kinsaku (Respectfully made by Gassan Sadakatsu), dated Shōwa jūhachinen hachigatsu (August, 1943), with a kaō, and inscribed Sanuii Mitsurushi shugō no tame (Made for the protection of Mr. Mitsuru Sanuii), with a one-piece silver habaki; in a guntō mount, the tsuba now lost Nagasa (length from tip of blade to beginning of the tang) 68.2cm (26 7/8in) long.
