[ translate ]

GASTON CASIMIR SAINT-PIERRE
French
1833 - 1916
PORTRAIT OF MONSIEUR E.G***

signed G. de Saint Pierre and dated 1861 (lower right)
oil on canvas
36¾ by 29½ in.
93.3 by 74.9 cm

Condition Report:
Not examined out of the frame. Lined. The work presents well. There is stable craquelure across the picture surface; a very small area of bumping and pulling over the 'Sai' of the signature; a few isolated pin dots of accretion; a barely perceptible 1 inch surface scuff extending from left lower edge; and minor frame abrsion along left upper and lower left edges. Under UV: varnish fluoresces green unevenly, and remains more heavily over part of the signature. The black coat is difficult to read under UV, but there appears to be a small retouch under the proper right thumb. Additionally, there is a pin dot retouch at lower left; a couple dashes of inpainting at the lower left edge; and finely applied inpainting along left lower edge.
