Gaston Hauchecorne was the greatest exponent of colonialist sculpture in the early 20th century. Brother of the French consul in the Chinese Empire, he made numerous sculptures with Chinese motifs in terracotta and bronze, some with humorous overtones. He exhibited his work in 1922 at the National Colonial Exhibition in Marseilles and at several salons of the Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts in the 1920s.
