[ translate ]

Property from a Private Florida Collection
GASTON LA TOUCHE
French
1854 - 1913
SOUS LES ARBRES

signed Gaston La Touche (lower left)
oil on canvas
canvas: 23 ¾ by 23 ¾ in.; 60.5 by 60.5 cm
framed: 28⅜ by 28⅜ in.; 72 by 72 cm

We are grateful to Roy Brindley and Selina Baring Maclennan for their assistance in cataloguing this lot, which is to be included in the forthcoming catalogue raisonné, which is currently in preparation.

Condition Report:
The following condition report was kindly provided by Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc.:

This work is unlined and well stretched on its stretcher. It appears to have suffered some degradation from exposure to heat. There are numerous small paint losses throughout the background. Under ultraviolet light, a few retouches addressing similar paint losses are evident. The bottom edge and the bottom right corner show later changes to the composition, and the texture and palette here are not consistent with the original paint layer. It is unclear whether these changes were made for cosmetic reasons or if they address a larger area of damage. This painting would benefit from careful restoration.

Provenance:
Sale: Christie's, South Kensington, September 10, 2015, lot 56, illustrated
