Gaston Laroux was born in Paris in 1854. He was a regular exhibitor at the Paris Salon and the international exhibitions during the late 19th century. He won awards in 1882 and 1883, 1885 and a bronze medal at the Exposition universelle of 1889 as well as that of 1900. He is most commonly known for his works relating to the "Orientalist" movement, and received much acclaim for his original figure of Aida. See P.
