GEORGE FULTON, ALLEGHANY CO., VALLEY OF VIRGINIA DECORATED CANNING JARS, LOT OF TWO, salt-glazed with lower slip wash, comprising an approximately one-quart capacity example and an approximately one-gallon capacity example signed "G N Fulton", each with ovoid form, grooved wax-seal rim, beaded neck ring, and brushed manganese decoration. George N. Fulton (1834-1894) Pottery, Arritts, Alleghany Co., VA. Active 1867-1885.

Condition: Smaller example with two flakes to base, glaze flake to slip wash, and wear to rim; larger example with moderate loss to rim, some glaze flakes to decoration, and two minor chips to neck ring. Larger example with firing separation below neck ring and kiln kiss to decoration, as made.

Size: 10 7/8" H, 4" D rim, 8 5/8" H, 4" D rim.
