GEORGE FULTON, ALLEGHANY CO., VALLEY OF VIRGINIA DECORATED PITCHER, salt-glazed with lower slip wash, approximately one-and-one-half-gallon capacity, ovoid form with bold double-bead rim, three incised shoulder rings below the neck ring, having three incised lower rings, and strap handle. Brushed cobalt over manganese feather and leaves decorations, additional cobalt over manganese feathers, leaves, and vertical stripes flanking the spout. Additional manganese at handle terminals. George N. Fulton (1834-1894) Pottery, Arritts, Alleghany Co., VA. Active 1867-1885. 11 5/8" H, 5 1/8" D rim.
Rim having moderate wear, some flakes and two hairlines, one 2 3/4" L, with chip to handle, area of wear to spout and shoulder. Large circular kiln kiss, as made.
