Georges Halbout was a French sculptor. His work was part of the sculpture competition for the 1924 Summer Olympics held in Paris. His father, Ernest Halbout, was a jeweller in Paris, which influenced his entry into the Ecole Germain Pilon, which later became the Ecole des Arts Appliquées à l'Industrie. With the outbreak of the First World War, he was imprisoned in Germany, where he devoted himself to making portraits of his comrades. After his release in 1918, he entered the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, where he became a pupil of Jean Boucher and shared a studio with Paul Belmondo, a sculptor and engraver of medals. In the mid-1930s, he became a teacher at the School of Fine Arts in Alger, after winning the Abdelllatif Prize in 1928. He also won the silver medal at the Universal Exhibition of 1937 and the gold medal at the Salon des Artistes in France. He specialised in terracotta and bronze pieces.
