GERMAN BRONZE FIGURAL GROUP BY OSKAR GLADENBECK

A finely cast antique German bronze figural group depicting a cow and a young female peasant with a milk jug by Oskar Gladenbeck. The sculpture is nicely detailed and covered with a deep brown patina. Raised on a naturalistic rectangular base. Signed on the side of the base: Oskar Gladenbeck GMBH. Circa the late 19th century, 1888 to 1911. Footnote: The Gladenbeck foundry was founded by Carl Gustav Hermann Gladenbeck in 1851 and was run by various family members and shareholders until the early years of the 20th century. The eldest son of renowned founder Hermann Gladenbeck, Oskar, 1850 to 1921, first co-operated with his father and later on became the leader of the foundry, when Hermann Gladenbeck retired in 1892. The firm flourished during the time of public monuments, fountains and other memorials but they also produced smaller bronze works.
