Publisher:Fiction House [Indicia: Fiction House Inc.]
Date Published: 1953
Description:

VG (4.0). Spine stress, top staple pulled, light edgewear including a few tiny edge nicks and a short creased tear to the right edge of the front cover, tiny crease to top right corner, tiny nick to bottom spine, rubberstamped distributor's mark above voodoo doll (" AUG 19 1953"). Cream to off-white pages. Pretty nice copy, might slab at 4.5. Cover: Maurice Whitman. Art: John Belcastro (as Johnny Bell), Bill Benulis, Bill Discount, Larry Woromay? GPAnalysis: A 3.5 sold for $355 in March 2021; a 4.5 sold for $250 in August 2018.

Maurice Whitman's blonde bayou babe's tattered dress makes her look like a pre-Code version of Li'l Abner's hillbilly honey, Daisy Mae Scragg. Whitman, a master of tease who's sexy scenarios earned him a prominent place in Dr. Wertham's Seduction of the Innocent, has even drawn the blonde's bra strap falling off her shoulder, a small detail bound to appeal to lingerie fetishists among Fiction House's readership.

A deluxe limited edition of 12 hardcover catalogues is available, in addition to a small number of softcovers. 400 lots, fully illustrated. Fun reference, great keepsake. Softcover $40, deluxe hardcover with dust jacket and limitation plate $200. Eight of the 12 hardcovers are pre-ordered and the rest will go quickly, so reserve yours now. To order, contact ivan@pbagalleries.com.

Consignments welcome for PBA's Spring 2022 Comic Book sale. Top prices for Pre-Code Horror, Golden Age, Silver Age, original art and ephemera. Find out why PBA is the new fan-fave of comics auctioneers. "This is some of the best commentary I've yet seen on the quality of the content of comic books... Priceless." — R. Crumb.
