According to the Courtauld, London, where there is another impression of this scarce etching by Parmigianino (1503-1540), though the subject of the work has been described as Saint Thaïs, it does not follow the traditional iconography. It is based upon a chalk drawing of a seated, resting woman in the collection of the Courtauld, thought now to be a quiet domestic scene. Bartsch 10.
