In 1910, Giovanni Giacometti repeatedly explored the motif of bathing figures. He painted the present motif in three different versions (cat. rais. nos. 1910.12-14), of which the version offered here is probably the earliest. In the same year, Giacometti's colleague and longtime friend Cuno Amiet also painted several nudes of children and in 1911/12 also adopted the bathtub in his well-known composition "drei Akte” (three nudes) (cat. rais. no. 1912.08). Further evidence of the lively artistic exchange cultivated by the two painters.
