GOULDING EDMUND: (1891-1959) British Film Director whose works included Grand Hotel (1932) with Greta Garbo and the classic film noir Nightmare Alley (1947). D.S., Edmund Goulding, six pages, 4to, Culver City, California, 16th February 1948, on the printed stationery of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures. The document is an agreement between Goulding and Loew's Incorporated for Goulding to be employed as a director and/or writer for the film East Side, West Side, stating that he will work in collaboration with Isobel Lennart and will receive a salary of $15,000. Signed by Goulding at the conclusion and countersigned by Louis K. Sidney (1891-1958) Vice-President of Loew's Incorporated. Two file holes and some very small, minor staple holes to the head of each page, none of which affect the text or signatures. VG £100-150 East Side, West Side (1949) was eventually directed by Mervyn LeRoy and the melodramatic crime film starred Barbara Stanwyck, Ava Gardner, James Mason and Van Heflin. The screenplay was by Isobel Lennart.
