GRAHAM SUTHERLAND
1903-1980
ROAD WITH ROCKS

pencil, pen and ink and wash on paper
43.5 by 63cm.; 17 by 24¾in.
Executed in 1935.

Condition Report:
The sheet has been affixed to the backboard with three strips of adhesive tape. The sheet is unevenly cut to the lower edge and unevenly cut or torn to the upper edge, not visible in the present mount. The sheet has been laid down onto a conservation sheet. The sheet undulates very slightly. There are historic repaired tears to the centre of the upper edge, the centre of the right edge, and to the upper edge towards the upper right corner with a few more minor examples elsewhere. None of these are visible in the present mount. There is a faint horizontal crease to the right of centre with a few more minor examples elsewhere, largely towards the extreme edges and not visible in the present mount. The paper is slightly rubbed through towards the centre of the upper edge. The sheet has staining and time staining in line with a previous mount, and the ink may have faded slightly. There are some faint handling marks towards the edges of the sheet, not visible in the present mount. This excepting, the work appears in good overall condition.

The work is window mounted and held behind perspex in a painted wooden frame.
