Lot Essay
An extraordinary Piece Unique, the present Geo. Graham Orrery Tourbillon is a remarkable demonstration of Graham’s most ambitious and highly complicated watchmaking. Housed in an imposing 47.5 mm platinum case, it combines an exceptional array of mechanical and astronomical complications rarely united within a single wristwatch.
Dominating the composition is the spectacular central tourbillon, surrounded by a three-dimensional mechanical planetarium, or orrery, transforming the dial into a miniature mechanical representation of the heavens. The planetarium depicts the Earth in blue sapphire, Mars in ruby and the Moon in rhodium, orbiting the central tourbillon representing the Sun. Its remarkable complexity is further enhanced by a zodiac calendar and an extraordinary perpetual Gregorian calendar conceived for 300 years.
Particularly fascinating are the two additional case backs intended for the following 200 years, further illustrating the exceptional scope and ambition of this creation.
Made as a unique piece, the present Ref. 2GGBX stands apart as a singular and spectacular horological creation, combining a central tourbillon, mechanical planetarium and centuries-spanning calendrical indications in one extraordinary platinum wristwatch.
