GREAT BRITAIN. Battle of Blenheim Silvered Copper & Lead-Filled Uniface Electrotype, "1704". ESSENTIALLY AS MADE.
cf. MI-260/55; cf. Eimer-406. Diameter: 56mm; Weight: 87.18 gms. After M. Smeltzing. Featuring the reverse scene from this RARE and popular type, the present piece displays Fame flying over a battlefield, blowing into two trumpets, all while the battle comes to an end below: Marshal Tallard and his officers surrender their swords, with a river god submerging other troops; E B counterstamped to either side of Fame. Edge: Plain, though numerous filing marks are noted.
The exact nature of this interesting type is not entirely certain, nor are the initials placed into the upper field. Nevertheless, it is a rather faithful copy of a very difficult medal that has British significance as well as general importance throughout Europe, as the Battle of Blenheim was part of the War of Spanish Succession.
Estimate: $300 - $500.
