Photograph (albumen print mounted onto a stiff paper mount). Numb. “42” in the negative. Ca. 24,5 x 33,5 cm. (image) & ca. 48,5 x 64 cm. (mount). – And 7 similar late 19th-cent. photographs (all albumen prints, nearly all ca. 25 x 34 cm.) by unidentified 19th-cent. photographers depicting views of i.a. the Acropolis, the Parthenon, the Temple of Hephaestus, the Temple of Olympian Zeus, the Theatre of Dionysus & the Choragic Monument of Lysicrates in Athens (Greece).

¶ Ad 1: Rare large-sized photograph by the 19th-cent. Greek photographer Dimitrios Konstantinou (also known as Dimitris Constantine) depicting the Acropolis & surroundings in Athens (Greece). Ex bibliotheca Dr. Maria Frederika Jongkees-Vos (1933-2018, Dutch archaeologist). “Constantine was the first photographer to be associated with the Hellenic Archaeological Society, for which he photographed antiquities in Athens and objects from the Society’s collection. Many of his photographs were sold in albums to foreign visitors to Greece” (cited from the website of the Princeton University Library). – A few minor imperfections (several dark spots in outer margins of the image, sl. foxed/ browned), but nevertheless in good condition.
